On Selichot, Arno Rosenfeld, an investigative reporter for the Forward, will guide our discussion on what American Jews believe and value and what the organized Jewish community advocates. In an era of institutional distrust, how do Jews interact with “leadership” groups that speak in the name of the community? What are the range of views about coping with anti-Semitism, the relationship with Israel and its government, and our identity in society?

During Elul we consider the internal challenges we want to face at the High Holidays and on Selichot, we gather together to define the issues facing our entire community. At this time, we all have fears, we all face disagreements within our families and communities and we all need more nuanced understanding.

Arno is an award-winning journalist who has reported from Charlottesville, Tel Aviv, Berlin, and the occupied West Bank. He has thought deeply about how we link our values to our political stances that will shape our future.

Please let us know if you plan on joining us in person or on Zoom: aitzhayim@gmail.com Saturday evening, September 28 at 7 PM EDT in the FEC at North Shore Congregation Israel, 1185 Sheridan Road, Glencoe for an important provocative discussion and an introduction to the sounds and spirit of the holidays.
